What does this title bring to your mind? Do you have a history to overcome?
Likely, because none of us can say we are perfect, there is a history of something that you want to overcome. Maybe you would love to be able to forgive and forget.
But that is not so easy, is it?
I was invited to be interviewed on a podcast, to share my story of overcoming (see details at the end). This is essentially the back-story of my life: overcoming a history of abuses…
My need for overcoming was to transition from the effects of a lifetime of abuses, beginning as far back as I can remember, in child abuse. I believed the lies of the enemy, that I was not loved, not enough, and that I did not belong. These lies were told and demonstrated to me through my parents, in their words, physical mistreatments, and lack of care.
In that mindset, I walked into an adult life. Is it any wonder that I allowed myself to be mistreated again and again? I was an attraction to the wolves in sheep’s clothing…
As a young wife and mother, I did come to Jesus, and found what inner peace is like, even in the midst of my troubles.
As I failed at one relationship, and then became a young widow to another, I became distracted by the wayward and chaotic world we live in. I continued to carry with me the lies the enemy had told me: “Nobody really cares; I am nothing.”
When I reached my forties and after the destruction of another relationship, I quit going to church. I quit singing, reading the Word of God. It is scary to think about how easy it was to simply quit praying, and to turn my back on the Lord, after all He had delivered me from.
Then, I met a charismatic, yet evil man… Folks, the enemy knows when we’re alone and weak. Just as we are warned in John 10:10 and 1Peter 5:8, the enemy was prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour… and he found me – his desire was to steal, kill, and to destroy me!
Yes, that was a life-threatening domestic violence situation, but God came to my rescue! While I was humble and desperate, I cried out to the Lord, and He did forgive me, and He provided a way for my escape.
Out of gratitude to the Lord, I am motivated to share my testimony of how the Lord continued to deliver me. Why? Because I want you, my dear reader, to know that He will deliver you as well! The choice is yours – Come to Jesus with a humble, contrite heart, believe and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior!
As you pray and praise Him with patient faith, pursuing peace, amazing things can happen!
Jumping forward, I am now happily living in the unique purpose that the Lord had set for me, and I love to share about His love, mercy, and grace. My deep and painful wounds are healed more each time I share with those who need encouragement. I share hope for healing in my writings, especially in “A New Song Rises Up!” and in my weekly podcasts, “Turn to God with Carin.” Information and links relating to my books and podcasts can be found at my website, https://www.CarinJayneCasey.com If you go there, please contact me with your comments. I was invited to appear on the “Pushed Into Purpose” podcast by Carla George, in her Episode 54, Overcoming a History of Domestic Violence with Carin Jayne Casey. In that, I shared my testimony of how the Lord delivered me, including some of the ‘Red Flags’ of an abuser, what victims and the public need to know, and resources that are available.
